I have had this engine from the beginning.

Last Xmas I took it apart to service it. Cleaned everything, lubed and reassembled.

This year I placed on track for first time today. It ran sluggishly for a while-then stopped.

Cycling the E unit produces nothing in forward or revers except a hum as if it was trying to go but couldn't.

The motor armature turns freely by hand--no binding all the way around.

Any thoughts on how to get this 65 year old engine running?

Strip down and start again as below for starters.

Check brush springs for tension

Check brushes are not worn down

Check brush tubes for gunk

Clean armaure and slots

Check armature for continuity

Check reverse fingers are tensioned correctly

Clean reverse unit drum

Check all wiring for continuity from tender to engine

Lube as required everything that needs it
