Help with DZ 1000

This may help DZ1000 & SC-2 ? Looks like the pushbutton is required to keep lights on.

RTR12 is correct! You do have to wire the push button into the system to maintain the LEDs. The negative leg of the LED is connected to the common on the push button. Since the SC-2 is what's connecting the common to either direction of the DZ-1000 the lights only illuminate when in motion from the switch being thrown, or if wired for non-derailing when a car passes over the isolated section giving a connection to common. Even if you have no plan on using the push button they can be wired in next to the SC-2 and the LEDs will work as normal provided you have room next to the mounting location of your SC-2.

Yes I see that, I wondered if there something I could do to make it happen.  I don’t want to use any push buttons. 

In place of the push button you place 2 resistors. Go to the zstuff website and look at wiring diagrams. It will show you how to do it.

Right now I have the push buttons wired and hanging below the switch under the layout.  I Just don’t like that.

Doug, on their web go to applications. Scroll down to dz100o and sc2 with resistors. Very simple to do. 1k resistors are needed. Basically you need 2 per switch.

So, I need to place diodes in line with the L & R wires going to the SC-2?  Size?

Still a little confused, so does the resistor go on the SC-2 connecting the L and common and another connecting the R and common?

Solder two 1k resistors together. Add a wire where you just soldered the two resisters together. I use a black wire because that’s what I use for all common connections. This wire goes to any ground connection under the layout. I’m assuming you have common ground. One remaining leg on the one resister goes to the right hookup on the DZ 1000 and the other remaining leg on the other resister goes to the left hookup on the DZ 1000.

I use on-off-on momentary toggle switches, with led's on the control panel and have

no problem with the lights staying on.  Use this link to explain it. http://www.z-stuff.net/app17.html

They work fine as long as you realized the push button controller contains the resistors needed

to activate and keep the led's on.  Also, when using non-derailing wires, you need to install a small

diode in the line to keep the led's from blinking as the cars roll over the small section of the  track where the

activation wires is attached.  The Z-stuff website has everything documented.

good information here, thanks to everyone for their posts...  the subpanels I build for the rest of the layout will definitely use this and not have the DZ1002 push button controllers on the face of the panel....  

Yes, good info here! I wasn't aware of the resistor fix either, just the need for the switch controller. Guess I should have looked around a bit when I linked the above diagram, it was listed on the same page...Doh!
