Help with Ho 1938 Gilbert loco.

The lamp and front part of my loco came off. There is a metal rod inside that falls out and face plate does not stay on. How can I fix it. This was my grandfathers train and I’m just getting into it to try and get it running for my son

Not sure if these will help or not, but... looks like maybe there is or was a small tab on the bottom of the boiler front and that accepted a screw to hold it in. Is there a tab, or does it look like there was a tab? Nice looking loco otherwise, and I suspect nice set!
