Does anyone know where to get new rubber bands (part# or type, etc) and how they are installed to make this car operate.
Thanks for any help you might have,
Tom

I have that car as well. Lionel offered a replacement bracket with spring instead of the rubber band. I got my replacement from a parts dealer. Its about a 5 minute to replace it. I would check with some of the parts dealers for the bracket. The spring wont dry rot like the rubber band did.
Joe,
Do you happen to remember which parts dealer? Or possibly even the part #? The replacement bracket & spring sounds like a much better idea. Been looking for anything in the way of parts for that car this evening and have found nothing so far. Will call a few parts places tomorrow.
Thanks,
Tom
Tom, here is the supplier that Lionel parts lists. Their website is not up yet so you must call them. "North Lima Train Works representative regarding our [PRODUCTS / SERVICES], please e-mail us at NLtrainworks@gmail.com or call us at 330-406-2811"
You want this assembly (Bracket assembly 630-6738-004):
Hope you get 'er fixed.... Fog Horn Leg Horn is one of my favorite characters!
Lookit here son, I say son, did ya see that hawk after those hens? He scared 'em! That Rhode Island Red turned white. Then blue. Rhode Island. Red, white, and blue. That's a joke, son. A flag waver. You're built too low. The fast ones go over your head. Ya got a hole in your glove. I keep pitchin' 'em and you keep missin' 'em. Ya gotta keep your eye on the ball. Eye. Ball. I almost had a gag, son. Joke, that is.

Thanks for that pic with the parts info.
BTW, I have (though I did not just now research these specific parts) had success ordering via the NLT website a few months back(link to thread). If you have the verbatim part numbers, it seems to work pretty well.

Susan,
Thank you for the detailed parts drawing, I have saved it for future reference. Going to give them a call shortly. I looked all over last night using the car part number and found nothing but the replacement light bulbs. Don't know how you found this but thanks for finding it! BTW, thanks for all your other very knowledgeable posts as well, I have been learning and saving info from many of those as well!
J Daddy,
Yes, Foghorn is my all time favorite too, has been since I was just a kid many years ago. He's a class act! Reason I had to have this car when I saw it.
"That boy's about as sharp as a bowling ball"
Thanks again to all,
Tom
...and Miss Prissy is like the road between Ft. Worth and Dallas....no curves!
Actualy, this was the best of the LT cars.
Thanks for a very informative thread. I also have the same issue with my Foghorn car and will order the bracket as a permanent fix.
Jon
I used to have the kits available for sale, the springs are still available, but the brackets got lost when North Lima bought a lot of bulk parts from Lionel.

It seems for these particular parts, if NLT has them it actually will require the phone call or email as Susan suggested. I just tried the search method I used previously on their site and neither the bracket nor spring showed up as available.
The springs do show up as available on Lionel's site, but I hear from others that Chuck has much more reasonable shipping if you need just a few small items. (~9.00 S&H for Lionel - not bad if you've got other parts to order, but a bit high for a few springs)

Dave,
I called them yesterday, recorded message said they were busy due to Christmas or something and to use website. I had the same results as you did, couldn't find part so I e-mailed them. Still waiting for a reply. May try calling again today and see if I might have missed something in the recorded message. I also searched a few other parts sites and came up short there also. I don't think just the springs will do, need bracket also as old bracket is spring metal on top & too flimsy.
Thanks,
Tom
Tom, if you can't get the assembly, the postwar repair with music wire replacing the rubber band will work. See Repair Sweeper Car Action . Link FIXED! SD
Link didn't work, but I found the info on your website. May end up doing that, still haven't heard back from NLTrainworks.
Thanks again Susan!
Link fixed!!
I sent an email to North Lima Trainworks and got a reply back a few days later that they do not have the springs nor the bracket. Does anyone else have a source for the parts? Lionel's search shows both parts but list the bracket as being available at NLT.
Any ideas for alternatives?
Thanks,
Luther
So far no luck here. I never even got a reply back from NLT. Asked at my LHS and they get their parts from NLT also. Ordered some springs from Lionel, and got them.
Now thinking about adding a small piece of angle to top of existing bracket and attaching the springs to that. If you look at the diagram Susan posted, looks like basically the same bracket with solid metal at the top (instead of spring metal) and a little hook added to hold the spring.
Also considering small wire as Susan also posted above. No bracket mods that way.
Please post here if you find the bracket or a solution & I will do the same.
Thanks,
Tom
I wish the car had a sound chip which said: I say, I say, you'er in a heap of trouble, boy!
If you could get some clips of Foghorn talking, that just might be possible to add? Did you see this recent thread? Good idea!

I haven't looked into the thread, but it did sound very interesting.
I've been looking for something like this.
Son, I say son, I'm glad I have some Foghorn sound files.
I wonder if Egbert could come up with a solution!

Sounds like you're all set. Sounds, that is, I say that's a joke son!
I used to have some Foghorn and also some Wyle E. Coyote clips (Super Genius), but I can't find them right now. It's been so long, can't remember where they came from, may have to start looking a little harder...

I ordered one of these doo-jiggers from "bigdawgs" and it works great! Very easy to load files and the sound is very clear!
Now, "Go away boy...you're bothering me".
PS. The only problem I had was that the UBS four port hub I have would not supply enough power to the device. I then plugged it in to the USB port on the front of my computer and everything went slick as a whistle.
