I have been running an MTH #30-20145-1 SD60 Diesel Engine on Atlas track with MTH DCS system. Recently, I have noticed that sparks are coming from the front and rear electrical pick-up. the sparks are coming from the roller part that rides on the 3rd rail. This causes the engine to shut down, as it thinks it has derailed. I have tried to clean the pick-ups as well as lubricate the pick-up without any success of fixing the problem. The engine is not more then 1 year old and has not been run a lot. Any ideas on what could be wrong and how I could possibly go about fixing this?

Thank you!

Andrew

You also need to check the ground wires.  Unfortunately you need to take the shell off an then inspect the truck wiring from the top.  Make sure black ground wire is connected and tight.  Same for the red wire and screw.  Could be broken insulation.

Additionally the internals pin of the roller can get corrodes so spray some contact cleaner inside the roller.

Make sure wheels are clean too.  G
