I wanted to ask a few questions for those who bought Heritage engines. These apply to all manufacturer's, and road names prototypical or fantasy.

1. Which ones do you have, or are getting?

2. What do you pull with them? Do you pull cars in that particular road name? Ex. N&W unit coal train       behind the N&W engine?

3. If you bought the fantasy NS heritage engines from Lionel, are you keeping them? If you bought         the CSX or BNSF heritage do you think you would keep them or get rid of them if those respective       roads did make heritage engines?

4. Any interest in the BNSF heritage hoppers being made?

Here's mine

1. Lionel's Southern, Lehigh Valley, PRR, and original NS.

2. I have some NS unit trains to run behind them. I'd also like to get some cars in those engines             respective road names.

3. I do not currently have any of the other heritage engines. I'd like to one day down the road get         some of the CSX ones. Probably would just get the heritage engines anyway if CSX made them.

Thank you for any input.

Bill

1. I have purchased N scale versions of the Monongahela, Lehigh Valley, Southern  and Central of Georgia units. These are produced by Fox Valley. I plan to purchase a few of the EMD units as well...probably CNJ, Lackawanna, Reading and New York Central.

2. I plan to use the models the same as any other locomotive I own.

3. The non-prototypical heritage models do not appeal to me.

4. No.

I have three of the original fantasy Lionel Norfolk Southern Heritage; Southern, Norfolk & Western, Virginian.

I have two of the Lionel CSX fantasy locomotives; Chessie and the Family Lines.

I have two MTH Premier NS heritage engines; the original Norfolk Southern and the New York Central.

I have two more Premiers on pre-order; Interstate and the Virginian. I have purchased the extra cars to go with the locomotive listed above.

1. Lionel GE AC6000 "7812" CSX/B&O Heritage Locomotive, with Legacy.

2. I use this Locomotive every 4th of July to pull my US Mail Boxcar, Uncle Sam Boxcar, 1976 Toy Fair Boxcar, LRRC 4th of July Boxcar, Paul Revere Boxcar, Liberty Bell Boxcar, George Washington Boxcar & CSX/B&O Heritage Caboose. The rest of the year it pulls various freight cars. The only time it leaves my layout is for Christmas and I miss it. It is my favorite locomotive!

3. I will never get rid of this locomotive!

4. No, BNSF is not one of the road names I buy, I like eastern railroads.

That's because Lionel just made them up.....what they "think" they would look like. Yes they are ridiculous!

I know, more's the pity.  Their fantasy CB&Q "blackbird" SD80MAC was close, but no cigar.

Properly done, similar to the NS approach, I could be interested.

I have three MTH UP Heritage SD70ACe's and one MTH "Isle of Denial" ATSF SD70ACe. Usually run them with a modern freight consist in tow, but don't run them that often. If I can track down scale-wheeled versions of the remaining four UP Heritage units (UP 844/Flag, DRGW, SP, and WP) I'll add them to the roster. I'm also trying to acquire the matching cabooses even though a caboose is pure fantasy.

On the off chance that BNSF does heritage units, I will buy the ATSF version and possibly one or two of the other units depending on decoration (I'm thinking Frisco and CB&Q). I will keep the Isle of Denial unit and probably run it with one of my C40-8W's.

I have Lionel's UP/SP and D&RGW units that I'm selling now that I have Overland versions.

I have Lionel's Virginian SD70Ace and NS ES44s.  I will keep them until there is something more accurate available.

I don't run them at all.  Having said that I am working on making them battery powered wireless controlled so they can run on cold track.

So, why ask about interest in BNSF Heritage units but not CSX Heritage units.  I bet there would be more interest in the later.  Then you could have CSX and NS versions of  Conrail and predecessors.  CSX could do more modern interpretations ala UP to go along with the NS's old school versions.

I did ask about CSX heritage units. I was asking specifically about the BNSF heritage fleet of hoppers. They are silver or light gray. They have the herald of the rr's that formed the company, and they have the BNSF reporting marks. I believe there are 3 per road. Your right it would be neat to see what CSX would do with a heritage program should they decide to do engines.

1. Which ones do you have, or are getting?

My buying process is to first buy models of the Heritage units I've seen.  So far I have the MTH PRR & Reading and plan to get the NPR next.  I haven't seen yet, but really like the Penn Central, New York Central, Lehigh Valley, Lackawanna and Southern.  My wife really likes the Illinois Terminal.  I decided on MTH since all my Norfolk Southern power is MTH, it'll be easier to M.U. them.  I doubt I'll end up with all of them, but I'll probably get whatever units I like that are available when ready to buy.

2. What do you pull with them?

Any modern freight train with NS road power.

3. If you bought the fantasy NS heritage engines from Lionel, are you keeping them? If you bought the CSX or BNSF heritage do you think you would keep them or get rid of them if those respective roads did make heritage engines?

I didn't buy any of these, I'm waiting / hoping those railroads will produce heritage locomotives of their own someday.  Although a lot of the fantasy engines look nice.  I did read in Trains magazine that, unfortunately, CSX has no plans to paint any heritage locomotives anytime soon.  Haven't got around to getting any of the UP Heritage units except for the MTH UP SD70ACE set with the waving flag.  I will if available when I want to add some.

4. Any interest in the BNSF heritage hoppers being made?

Not really, but I haven't looked at them.  But there's a ton of current modern rolling stock from all manufacturers that I have my eye on first.

I pre-ordered Lionel Southern #8099 NS Heritage LEGACY ES44AC Diesel, but it has not shipped yet; although most of the other Lionel NS Heritage ES44's have already shipped.  I bought rolling stock, Southern caboose and boxcar to go along with my ES44ac when I get it

Last year I bought the fantasy NS Heritage "Southern" SD70ACe, but ended up returning it because of multiple problems.  The dealer exchanged it out for another one, but the 2nd one he gave me also had problems, so he kindly refunded my money.  I have the matching rolling stock for it...Southern caboose, boxcar and hopper so it stinks that I had to return it.  I was hoping to be able run the fantasy version with ES44ac.   Ken

I have MTH's Southern Heritage Fantasy paint scheme/Tuxedo SD70ace, NS Southern Heritage and NS Norfolk & Western. I'm waiting on MTH's Savannah and Atlanta, Central of Georgia, and Wabash. All of these engines are powered. I also have the cabooses and boxcars. The remaining MTH Heritage engines I will purchase as non-powered (dummy) engines. I'm currently running a 4-unit powered consist (lashup) with 36 intermodal cars..............Rogerw.

1. I have all seven of the MTH UP Heritage engines.  I have the following of the MTH NS Heritage engines: original Norfolk Southern, Lackawanna, Pennsylvania, Lehigh Valley, Nickel Plate Road (NP), Conrail (NP), and will be getting the Interstate and the Central Of Georgia.  I would like to get the MTH Southern, the Monogehela(NP) and possibly the Wabash.  I will be getting the Lionel NS Heritage Norfolk and Western (NP version).  I had ordered it before the MTH announcement that they would be offering NP versions.

2. Any modern freight cars make up the consists.

3. No interest in any of the Lionel fantasy heritage engines.  But I do have an MTH ES44AC in Rock Island livery that could be considered fantasy

4. Since I do have quite a few pieces of BNSF rolling stock I guess I wouldn't mind have the heritage hoppers.
