I recently purchased this new old stock mikado in a recent auction for $130. Who says that there aren’t bargains out there?I have never seen a Hines locomotive before and I am very impressed at the weight and quality.  Came with the original boxes for the boiler and tender as well.

At any rate,  I was not too thrilled with using the field motor and dropped in the El cheapo Pitman 8724. It fit perfectly. This is a gear motor which I purchased on the bay NOS for about $18 with free shipping. Seem to show up frequently on the Bay.  All one has to do is to remove the gear motor part which involves a screwdriver and a cutting wheel but it’s pretty speedy process.  These 8000 motors are pretty hard to find with rare earth magnets so this is kind of a bargain as well.

Now all that I have to do is finish the kit.  The NOS field motor is in the foreground of one the photos.
