Cranberry Township, PA. It's on their website.
Welcome to you and your crew, Harry! I have visited the store a couple of times in the past when my wife "forces" me to go to the Pittsburgh area IKEA and nearby malls, but will make it a point to stop by soon and say hello.

Eddie...their banner ad when clicked on will go to their website as well as their listing within the featured topics under the forum sponsor index. I also provided a link in my announcement above...you can click on the highlighted "Hobby Express Inc."
Hobby Express is a great store! You can spend a lot of time in there just browsing, and they carry a wide variety of items from a lot of different hobbies. Some of the other hobby items, like gaming figures and 1:48 model kits, can be re-purposed for train layouts. I recommend visiting in person for anyone in or visiting the Pittsburgh region.

Fellows, This is One Giant Hobby Store, it’s got almost anything one would need to build a super model railroad. All kinds of trains, rolling stock, accessories, Great Help, and supposedly a huge model railroad being built next door to the store. @Mark Boyce took me to see this store when I visited Pittsburgh for my grandson’s graduation from the University of Pittsburgh. Mark is a great tour guide.
ITS A WOW!!
I wish we had that store here in middle Tennessee Awesome folks, clean store, a true hobby store
Welcome to the OGR world of fun. You will be a great addition. Thank you.
I was just in there today after stopping at Starbucks for my break. They have something for everyone and the staff is courteous and helpful. Well-organized, clean and tremendous selection of N Scale, HO Scale, O Scale and G Scale and LGB Trains. Lotsa layout supplies, structures and track from Woodland Scenics, Menards, Lionel, MTH, Atlas, Walthers, etc. I'm probably more impressed with the volume of diecast cars they carry than anything else.
It's easy to find, Cranberry Commons, off PA 228. Lotsa places to shop nearby and eat, too! Cracker Barrel, Smokey Bones, Olive Garden, Applebee's, Longhorn Steakhouse to name a few.
Great store! I always drop by when I visit family in Pittsburgh. The selection is fantastic.
they are in PA, north of pittsburgh
@Eddie g. Sir, if you go to Pittsburg, head north 35 miles to Cranberry County, they are located in a large Mall. Phone 724-779-2000, hobbyexpressinc.com, 1713 PA. 228 W Cranberry Township, Pa. 16066 You will love visiting this really well stocked hobby store. Guaranteed…. Happy Railroading Everyone
Another aspect that adds to their greatness is they are an authorized DCS repair shop. I’ve had two PS3 engines repaired there.
It’s the largest hobby store I have ever seen
Welcome!

Welcome aboard!
I am glad to see Hobby Express become an OGR forum sponsor (you're welcome, Alan ). This is one of the last, great hobby shops left. (Full disclosure: I was a part-time employee from 2019-2023.) Harry and crew are extremely helpful, knowledgeable, courteous, and fair people. I thoroughly enjoyed working with them.
The store is amazing and features:
- Model trains (Z, N, HO, S, O, G) from many manufacturers. For O, that's Lionel, MTH, Atlas, Williams locomotives and a very large supply of freight and passenger cars.
- Layout building supplies: track (Atlas, Lionel, MTH, GarGraves, LGB), scenery (ground cover, trees, ballast), buildings, wiring, transformers, command systems, detail parts, paint (tons of various paints)
- Structures - Woodland Scenics, Lionel, MTH, Menards, Plasticville
- Scratch-building items - Evergreen, Plastrut, K&S, balsa and basswood, a wide variety of plastic and CA glues
- R/C Boats, Planes, Vehicles (trucks, tanks, cars) - and the parts and repair service to keep them running
- Plastic model kits (cars, ships, planes, Gundam, TV & movie models) along with paint and glue
- Kids' Science Aisle
- Model Rocketry - all kinds of rockets & engines, starter sets
- Slot cars - vehicles and track
- Jigsaw puzzles - a very extensive collection
- Diecast cars and trucks - 1:18, 1:24, 1:43, 1:64
You need to check this store out. Hobby Express has also been a sponsor of NMRA events, including our division's annual Model Railroad Jamboree and last year's Mid-Central Regional Convention.

I am blessed to live 10 minutes from Hobby Express. It has to be the best hobby shop I have ever been to. I go there all the time. Their inventory is massive, and their stock of scratchbuilding material which I need all the time is fantastic. I hardly ever have to order anything...their supply of Plastruct and Evergreen styrene is immense as is their stripwood supply. Their inventory of scenery material is immense. Harry and his daughters and all of their employees take great care of me. If you live in the area, you have to check them out!
My wife, Wendy, and I visited Hobby Express today (a 45 minute drive for us via the overpriced--even with EZ Pass--PA Turnpike) so I could introduce myself and personally thank owner Harry Schmiedel for his advertising support of OGR. Also chatted with staff member Dorian, who is a 2-rail O scale hobbyist and also into HO. Urged Dorian to join us on the forum. Harry has a very impressive store that seems to get bigger and better over time. All sorts of trains and train-related items, of course, but also ample support for a variety of other popular hobbies, and truly neat toys for kids that I have not seen in other stores. We left with toy purchases for the grandkids, and will be back--with the grandkids in tow--for some pre-Christmas scouting and shopping. Thanks for the warm welcome, Harry, and for coming in on short notice on what was supposed to be your day off.
