I am going to be in Portland Oregon next weekend. Are there any hobby shops that handle 3 rail items there? Would love to visit them.

Been about four years since I was last in Portland but; I would recommend Whistle Stop Hobbies. Google the name for address and hours.

There was a place called Vic's; it was pretty close to OMSI.
Not sure if it's still there...

There are 2 good shops in Portland for 3 rail items: Whistle Stop Trains as noted above, and The Hobby Smith. The former is down the road from me, and I visit them lots. Vic's closed several years ago.
Enjoy your visit,
Michael
Thanks Michael, for the update.
Too bad about Vic's. The "Oregon O scalers" had a 2-rail layout in the lower level at Vic's; I wonder what became of it...

Mark,
Yes, Vic's was a great shop. Lots of products and service. I recall asking about how to clean/restore an old rolling stock item, and the reply was, "Why? It looks naturally weathered." I keep that in mind for lots of vintage items. For example, I showed my wife a shiny new roof I purchased for my 164 Lionel Log Loader, and she said, the old one (with lots of deteriorating paint) looks much more natural. Great advice.

Three of them; Whistle Stop, Hobbysmith, Tammy's in Hillsboro .... that's it folks. Two more of them in Oregon City, just south of Portland proper.

I personally was disappointed in the selection at Tammy's, but if you have time it is worth the visit. I unfortunately did not make it to Whistle Stop or Hobbysmith.
And Tammy's is actually in Beaverton, I think you may have confused it with Hillsboro Hobby Shop (I am not sure if they sell any 3 rail).

Going to Oregon city is possible. Any names would be helpful. Thanks
If you haven’t been to the Oregon Rail Heritage Center, forget the hobby shops and spend the time at ORHC instead!
Both Hobbysmith and Whistle Stop have a bit of 3 rail. Both have great customer service. Both have a decent amount of used Postwar engines, cars accessories and tracks. Whistle Stop has a larger selection of "New" 3 rail. Hobbysmith is closer to Downtown (East 39th) while Whistle Stop is a bit further out (East 122nd).
Tammies in Beaverton has a very small selection of 3 rail. Just a few "New" items and no used. They are more of a "General" Hobbystore with a decent selection of HO and N scale items.
