Mark,

Yes, Vic's was a great shop. Lots of products and service. I recall asking about how to clean/restore an old rolling stock item, and the reply was, "Why? It looks naturally weathered."  I keep that in mind for lots of vintage items.  For example, I showed my wife a shiny new roof I purchased for my 164 Lionel Log Loader, and she said, the old one (with lots of deteriorating paint) looks much more natural.   Great advice.

Three of them; Whistle Stop, Hobbysmith, Tammy's in Hillsboro .... that's  it folks.  Two more of them in Oregon City, just south of Portland proper.

I personally was disappointed in the selection at Tammy's, but if you have time it is worth the visit. I unfortunately did not make it to Whistle Stop or Hobbysmith.

And Tammy's is actually in Beaverton, I think you may have confused it with Hillsboro Hobby Shop (I am not sure if they sell any 3 rail).

Both Hobbysmith and Whistle Stop have a bit of 3 rail. Both have great customer service.  Both have a decent amount of used Postwar engines, cars accessories and tracks. Whistle Stop has a larger selection of "New" 3 rail. Hobbysmith is closer to Downtown (East 39th) while Whistle Stop is a bit further out (East 122nd).

Tammies in Beaverton has a very small selection of 3 rail. Just a few "New" items and no used.  They are more of a "General" Hobbystore with a decent selection of HO and N scale items.
