Another close of a Flyer tradition. I was just searching for parts on the Hobby Surplus website and decided to call the 800 number and order. What I learned is that Hobby Surplus has been sold and the Amoto family is out of it.
If you remember he bought the Gilbert leftovers after the company busted and has been selling the stuff since then. Such a shame for time to move on and traditions die.
The new owner is rebuilding the website and it will be TranRepairParts.com
Good news, apparently.
I talked on the phone with Hobby Surplus today using their 800 number and they are (so they stated) still in business. They are revamping their web site, as Bill stated, which may have caused some confusion. Their new site is supposed to be fully functional by the end of the year and they continue to offer parts and other train-related items. I could have ordered a Flyer caboose today if I had made up my mind about it. Their 'sister store', Amato Toys, (whom I called separately) is also still open and doing well.
The thread title is rather misleading. Hobby Surplus Sales changes hands -- might be a better way of stating the situation.
Hope this clarifies.
