Hi everyone,

I got a question regarding the steam whistle on the Hogwarts Express Locomotive.

I noticed that when you crank the throttle to full power the sound of whistle decreases.

It is loudest at 1/4 -  1/2 way throttle.

Is this normal or is there an issue? Im using the CW-80 power supply.

Does it do it when it is just the engine and tender on the track with out the coaches? How about with just the tender (assuming it doesn't need the engine to get power)? Is it the same results if the engine is in neutral?  Perhaps the transformer isn't big enough to power everything you've got on it.

I've never noticed this on my CW-80, but I have no Hogwart's train to try it out with. The set I run the CW-80 with is a small Christmas starter set, so anything much above half throttle would launch the engine off the track. Maybe that is the way it is.

Hope this helps,

I tried the tender only on the track and its the same. I also tried it on my other track and its the same result. Both tracks have the CW 80's on them. All my other locomotives work fine. Forgot to mention that the HE is brand new.I have fast track on the front of layout and it connects to o gauge tubular style track.I have multiple lockons on the tubular style track.

Thanks

Had something to do with the ages listed in the box. I remember ages 14 and above it could be loud but some government agency has some magical power and it had to be quieter for sets designed for the younger audience.

Before Lionel did their website "upgrade" there was a spec sheet on what to do to make it louder, as GRJ noted.
