I had thought about building a 2 rail scale point to point replicating a small European town. Bought the wagons and engine and then realized I did not have the space to "decently" do so .  My train room is limited to 12x12 and is filled with 3R with the idea of adding a 2R section somewhere.  I ended up planning a 2R trolley line through my little town with powered overhead trolley wire. My trolleys have 3R wheel sets but can run 2R through the overhead wire.  I am favorably impressed with its believable look. Maybe someday I'll switch out the trucks.

However I would not consider that trolley line a "layout", for that matter a 2R switching layout would not meet my idea of a layout. I dream of having enough room for a large enough space - but the reality is, its highly unlikely to happen. I only know 1 person who has enough available room to put in a decent 2R layout and he is completely uninterested in railroading. So I've always found this forum question odd along with the "is the hobby dying" question.

So to all the 2R guys, however many that may be, who post out there, thanks for sharing your layout with us.  And @myles thanks for sharing yours.

@SANTIAGOP23   Santiago haven't seen your posts is a while.  If that is supposed to be a central Illinois scene, there are too many trees!  Nothing but corn and soybean fields to the horizon. There are a few patches of trees here and there but only "volunteer" trees near the right of way.  Regardless layout Looks outstanding and you need a few trees here and there regardless.   Like the old celluloid look to the video.

Thanks for the compliment on the videos bigboy25.   I’m working on trying to set up a “video /link page” on the layout giving a better idea of what else exists along the 2450 sq ft of layout.   The staging  yard along the big walL doesn’t hold a lot of interest , but the roundhouse/shops area across from it is starting to take on a finished look.  More ballast and several extra details need to be added to give it a finished look.
The new scenery location at “Louise” is taking shape with more fir trees being added , on the average , every 4 to 5 days.
I still want to do a quick 4 picture “ clinic” on dry/dead fir trees.   Somehow they add visual interest either still standing , leaning or fallen across or in creek beds.  Well get on that one soon.
Construction on the Louise station is already underway and I’ve been taking progress pictures as we go along.
After this section gets a more of a compleated appearance, then I’ll move on down the line and work at the location of “Field”.
Here’s a taste of both model and prototype. …  ( we had to wait for expiditer traffic to pass).
Until than, keep having fun !IMG_7209IMG_7214IMG_8457

Thanks. I filtered the video to compress from 4K. I rarely post videos here since the file limit is so low (100mb).

Ryan,

These are great photos of your layout. Is that 3rd photo Thurmond? I like how you cleverly blended your river into the backdrop. If you ever need a new home for that N&W Molly, look no further lol. Thanks for sharing.

Dave

Thanks Dave! I need to make another layout update video as I've done a lot since my last one. Yes, the 3rd photo is the buildings from Thurmond. I acquired those from a friend of mine when he was tearing down his layout. They were built by Don Eastman from Canada.

Thanks for the comment on the river blending! The backdrop is from tracksidescenery.com. Joey is great to work with and will customize backgrounds to fit scenes/areas on your layout.

If you're looking for a 2-rail N&W Molly, I know of one for sale and could put you in touch with the owner.

Great running, @Nu2Oscale.  You are making good use of that attic space!  Your attic reminds me of our old house with a steeply pitched roof.  Now we have a very low pitch and after the years have passed, neither of us can maneuver up there very well.

@SANTIAGOP23 I like both videos.  They really look like original color film from when those prototypes were brand spankin' new!
