Hey George and Mike. I would just like to add my experience..........or bad experience. I tried mightily to make the DZ1008A relay work in conjunction with the DZ2500 switch machine. Like George, I wanted to control the lights on my MTH signals.

I used the DZ application, I even had Dennis Z. involved with multiple emails and phone calls. I tried 10VAC and 14VAC as a power source. It did not matter.

My bottom line, I never got them to work as designed on the DZ directions. I abandoned my efforts and went with all new Custom Signals (now out of business) that used the Atlas compatible control board. No DZ1008A required and I could trigger the lights to cycle using the white wire (I think that is right) from the DZ2500.

I even asked a few times here on the forum and no one could figure out what my problem was. It was very frustrating as I had dozens of MTH signals I wanted to use!

Best of luck George and please report any positive progress. I would love to hear how to make them work.

Thanks.

Donald

The DZ-2500Cs really dont play well with the DZ-1008A relays. The relay was designed to interface and plug into the DZ-1000s. However,I have wired these relays with the DZ-2500Cs for slip switches and extra long  Ross witches.

Although I have not tried this with any signals. I too use Custom Signals (Terry is still or was selling a few on eBay) because of the superior Atlas signal system.

The MTH Pennsy-styled circular signal heads are controlled by a timing circuit under each support leg; I guess that that timing is incompatible with the DZ-2500Cs.  I was going to replace my signal heads with midwestern (CN&W) styled color light signals and remove the timing circuit.

Hey Alan. I am sure a few years ago you tried to help me too. But the outcome was the same.  The relay just does not work with the 2500 to control MTH lights. George, maybe you will find lightning in the bottle but ultimately I do not think it is going to work.

Thanks gentlemen!  I appreciate this feedback.

And Alan is correct - the DZ-1008 was designed to mate and operate with the DZ-1000 switch machine.

Making the DZ-2500 switch machine activate an MTH signal head on the PRR bridge was my 2nd (and least favorite) option.  Your comments have cemented my decision to go with the DZ-2500 firing a Z-Stuff signal head on the DZ-1090 signal bridge.

I have successfully used the DZ-2500 to trigger the DZ-1060 PRR 7-light position signal.  My wiring diagram is shown below.

003 DZ-2500a Switch With DZ-1060 Signal v003

If the signal head and its wiring on the DZ-1090 is identical to the standalone DZ-1060 signal we should be OK.

Thanks again, everyone!

George
