I am new to this I cannot figure out how to search existing for posts on a particular topic. can someone help me?

Select the 'advanced search' option. It's pretty self-explanatory.
Use the drop-down menu at the top left if you want to limit the search to a particular area of the forum and complete any or all of the other available data fields.

Nothing embarrassing about this at all, Matt! This forum offers a lot of features and the learning curve is long and steep. Now you can check off this one and go on to learn how to embed videos, put images in your posts, etc.

The only thing to be embarrassed about is not asking for help when you need it.
