I have a Lionel "Big Emma" great little engine , great puller and the smoke is OK, whistle is not bad. Name on the engine is Louisville & Nashville .

The RailKing and Lionel versions are nice. But I keep waiting for one of the companies to make an accurate scale model of the L&N 2-8-4 "Big Emmas." These great-looking engines were among the last steam locos built for mainline service in the USA.
[A little off-topic, but I would be just as pleased with a Western Maryland "Potomac" 4-8-4, or even a DT&I Berkshire. All of these are modestly-sized, modern-looking steam which hasn't been made to date in O gauge.]
I also have the Railking version. Like you said nice whistle and a good smoker.

Good news! USH did a very robust full scale version, and lately they have been going on eBay for well under $500. Another $200 would probably get it 3-railed, although I would regard that as blasphemous. I did 3-rail a Lobaugh Berk not too long ago.
The USH version is a good enough model that I am now tempted, even though I am not wild about the prototype.
I too am waiting for a Lionel Legacy scale L&N "Big Emma"
Trains magazine had an issue devoted to the L&N Berk back in the 60's / 70's
It was a great read
You can double check with MTH, but I was told they did a "Premier" version several years ago, and I believe it was a PS-2 version.
We had a new member to our club a few years ago, said that he had one. He never did come to any club functions, and no one has seen him sense. I had heard that a train dealer in Elizabethtown, Ky had a few hold overs for sale.
I don't remember the dealers name, but they did stock a lot of L&N Stuff!....I got my Williams L&N "E-7's" passenger engines through them...

When - and if - there is a true 3-rail L&N M-1 Berk offered I would almost certainly - no, certainly - buy it. The MTH versions (both Premier and RK) are merely an NKP Berk in party clothes. The little Lionel is not even up to that standard.
MTH offered the P&LE/NYC A-2 Berk years ago (I have it); a much less-well-known prototype, NYC connection notwithstanding. 3rd Rail is the obvious choice, but things from the Southeastern quadrant of the country typically seem unknown in NorCal (their GM&O E-units were a complete shock). Yes, they do sell.
The M-1 would sell nicely - it always generates a response here. I can "guarantee" 4 sales in my circle of friends, right off the top of my head.
D500 let's make that 6, as I'm in for two myself.
Visiting some family at Anchorage, Ky when I wuz a kid, and L&N, C&O shared that section of line at MN Tower in/out of Louisville. Those Emma's were Massive, but not unlike the C&O Kanawha's, liked em both!...................

My friend that is the railroad. They were called big emma.Do not belive research for yourself. You will find I am right.
I got the big emma because of its number. You see that was the year I came into the world. And my mother had a friend named emma. The one thing about L&N steam locomotives is their headlights were big.Even for steam locomotive they were big.

I have seen a picture of the DT&I berkshire pulling a short freight train. It was sometime in the 1930s.
