I do when my LHS doesn't have what I need/am looking for.
I've purchased from quite a few; Ross, Scenic Express (a favorite) , Wholesale trains, Trainland, Trainz, Miller Engineering, Gargraves, Lionel, MTH, Williams, Korber, just to name a few. All good vendors. We must remember that supporting forum sponsors and OGR advertisers is what keeps this forum running. I also maintain an ongoing and continuous subscription to OGR magazine. OGR has been a very generous host and I feel that this is the least that I can do to say thank you.
Happy New Year everyone!!
It's a no-brainer. Besides, the way Alan the sponsor slayer has been working his program, just about anybody that has anything to do with O gauge trains is going to be signed by the end of next year.
I have purchased from 3 individuals and all were nice transactions. Very pleased. Thanks to all.
Yes, from several of them, at York and direct phone orders
Up until recently I had an LHS that took care of all my needs, however the owners health issues have closed that store. So I have started using a couple of the sponsors, but prefer one so far
I have purchased with several sponsors, all good dealings.
I have purchased from several sponsors. Every time it has been a great experience!

Absolutely !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When my LHS doesn't have or can't get what i'm looking for i have bought from several of them.

I support my LHS's first, then Forum Sponsors, then elsewhere.
Andy
I have purchased from multiple forum sponsors...
Jeff Davis
Yes. And I always thank them for supporting the OGR forums.
Multiple times from more than a few of the sponsors over the years, and all have been satisfactory transactions!

I am grateful to the sponsors and I have made purchases from several of them.

99.9% of the train items in our Christmas display came from forum sponsors this year. One PE coach bought at a train show was an impulse buy to add an eighth passenger car to the train.
Most of my purchases come from them.. and I always go to their site off the banner ad here at the forum.
The better their searching capabilities, the better chance I have of purchasing from them.
All the time.
Peter
I think your ad dollars are being put to good use here.
I’ve used a few of the sponsors of this Forum with Great results, and confidence that I’ll be treated fair. Let’s face it, you would not advertise here long if you were a crook. The members of this forum would never let you get away with that, and that’s a confidence builder for me!
OGR Sponsors.. I hope you have a Great and Prosperous New Year.
K.C.
I get most of my stuff from Nassau Hobby. I also make a few purchases a year at a small local shop.
Sidetrack Hobbies, Patrick's Trains, Charles Ro, and Nassau Hobbies for my LIRR stuff. I was so pleased with my experience with Patrick's Trains that I'll be buying more from those folks in the very near future. Its real nice when the owner knows enough about the hobby and product to carry on a discussion.

I have, from several, including Pat's Trains, on Staten Island??, whose banner I could not pull up above, 3rd Rail, etc., but it depends on anything interesting being in the catalogs, which hasn't been true lately. Most of my buying for a few years has been older stuff, available in shows and on the net.
Many times with great success!
LHS first, that became a friendship then from most of our OGR sponsors.
I ordered from Grzyboski's at Christmas. I figured t would be sometime this week before it came in with all the orders of Big Boys and Cab Forwards they had to ship out. Ordered on Dec. 23rd and arrived on the 26th. Great service, no problems. Positive experience.
Have ordered from Pats Trains who also does an awesome job for the forum and customers.
They support us in several ways, why should we not support them?
Gene
As one of the sponsors, thanks for the thanks.
You guys might be surprised by this, but the sponsors write checks every month to support the forum, and if you totaled up the number of sponsors times the sponsorship fee, it's a significant number.
Still the the best place on the Internet to talk O Gauge trains!
Thanks for this timely thread, Don. It has been a real pleasure to read all of theses posts and to learn how much our Forum members appreciate the OGR sponsors.
We should also give Alan Arnold a huge pat on the back for a job well done in connecting the advertisers with us in such a professional way. The OGR family is blessed to have him "aboard".
I have, and never had a bad transaction with those I've done business with. I realize I've not always mentioned the forum or OGR to them. I guess a worthwhile New Years Resolution for all of us would be to tell them why you choose to do business with them. I'll do it. We all should. Happy New Year!
I do, also. I see ads on from sponsors that I didn't know existed; investigate, and purchase items if desired. Absolutely no issues.
Yes, my Local Hobby Shops, then the Forum Sponsors, Then the OGR FORUM's For Sale or Trade Column...This FORUM IS SIMPLY THE BEST. I utilize all aspects of this Train Related Group of Knowledgable Train Enthusast.....Happy New Year
At the risk of being labeled as a heretic, I buy very few new items. I shop carefully and spend carefully, so good used trains and accessories are at the top of my lists. I guess I equate used trains to buying used cars: there are so many really good ones available that I see no reason to buy new and suffer the depreciation. Think about all the posts on this forum that mention trains that are still running well after 40, 50, 60 years. That tells you that these products are still reliable and useful when purchased carefully. My other hobby is repairing computers for friends (I charge only for parts, never for labor) and I usually buy used parts to use for repairs. I personally have 4 Lenovo laptops and all were purchased used. When I need building materials, power tools or electrical items I shop at Habitat for Humanity's Restore. Call me frugal. If I can find what I want used and is good condition, why buy new?
Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the OGR sponsors and when I occasionally buy a new item it's usually from RMT. I'm currently considering a new set of 4 WBB passenger cars from Trainworld because they are $99/set and I can't buy them used for less.
I was able to retire 11 years ago at 55 because I'm careful with my money.
I've made purchases from some of the forum sponsors, before they were sponsors.
I've made purchases from forum sponsors because they had the item(s) I was seeking.
I've never made a purchase because they are a forum sponsor.
I have no LHS, & live out in what shippers consider the boonies, so....
Price, availability & choice of shipping far outweigh forum sponsorship when deciding to make purchases.

Just saw this thread...THANKS DON for posting it!
Let me say that OGR is grateful for all of our advertisers. AND...we are equally grateful for our subscribers. Without the advertisers and readership, OGR would not exist.
Over the last year and a half, we have experienced very healthy growth but most of you would be surprised at how much it takes to keep this forum and the magazine going...it is not for the faint of heart! Those of you that have experience in print probably have a good idea how much it costs to produce a 100 page high quality magazine like OGR...
I know that support of your local as well our magazine and forum advertisers is very much appreciated by them and of course the side benefits for you are countless!
So...I want to once again thank ALL of you, advertisers and subscribers alike, for your support of what many of us believe is the best place to be...OGR..!!
Alan
I try to buy from the BUY SALE thread on this forum, then go to forum sponsors
Brent
When looking for something always check sponsors first.
