Nicole had a wonderful three rail layout and was a wonderful person. We would write back and forth because we were on about the same time zone. She always had kind words and really liked the Milwaukee Road. As far as I know, no one has been able to find out how or really when she passed. This was her last post to me.

Hello and welcome from the other side of the world.

Hi Don,  I just wanted to see if this new feature worked, and to say hello.

Thank you for posting so many excellent photographs and videos. You are a very talented photographer & cinematographer as well as a true modelling artist. The attention to detail in your models is outstanding, and I never tire of seeing them. Please don't ever stop.

I hope that all is well for you and your family, and although it is now 20 years since I last set foot in your islands, I fondly remember my visit.

Very best wishes from the mad old bat in Holland.

Nicole.

If you have any memories of her, please post them. I think a lot of people miss her. Thanks Don

Who could forget. She was a great influence on this forum and very knowledgeable.

She had been suffering from cancer and mentioned she was trying a last ditch effort for treatment before she stopped posting.

Her forum name stood for "Not Quite Dead Yet". Nicole was always positive and seldom mentioned her illness up until the end. It almost seemed a harsh name, but I think with Nicoles spirit, it was really her taking a  somewhat lighthearted look at her health issues.

Alex M had attempted making contact with friends or family by mail with no luck.

However, later he DID end up making contact second hand through forum member St.Paul who had a friend that knew Nicole personally

Here's that thread:

actually contact was made with a friend of hers that she had left her phone to after passing and he is the one who let us know of her passing this was a shared endeavor with Alex M and myself just thinking of this and others that have succumbed to cancer saddens me.

I never personally chatted with Nicole but always enjoyed reading her posts.

Yes I remember her too. She was always very positive and provided help to many of us. She once said that waiting on her pre-orders was helping to keep her around waiting for them to come in. She was very knowledgeable about our hobby, a great person always willing to help others. It was very sad to learn of her passing and I think she is still missed around here. It saddens me when I see one of her old posts every so often while reading through an older thread.

We have lost quite a few folks over the last few of years, way too many! I'm sure hoping all the rest of you are going to be around here for quite a while longer yet.

I always read her posts with a great deal of delight.  I only had the opportunity to interact with her on a couple of occasions on a couple of train related topics and there was always an unmistakable sweetness and gentleness about her.  Those traits coupled with her unshakeable sense of humor made her an inspirational figure.  I miss her.

Rest in peace, Nicole. Reading the cause of her death, reminded me of a study that was recently done in Iran, where they have the highest rate of esophageal cancer in the world. So I thought I should warn others. Here is what they found. They love their tea over there and like to drink it hot. They claim their cancer is coming from swallowing liquids hotter then 140 degrees. Since I also enjoy hot tea and coffee, this prompted me to take the temperature of my drinks for a few days to learn the feel of 140 degrees and to time how long it takes for the temp to come down to that before I drink it.

It is always easy to remember the positive way that Nicole expressed herself on this forum. While she lived in Holland, I believe that she was British. Bringing her female perspective to model railroading on this forum was refreshing.  Her demeanor while fighting her disease should be an inspiration to us all.  I always loved Nicole's sense of humor and outlook on life.   May she R.I.P.

AFAIK, Nicole wasn't the only female model railroader that we have lost. Anyone remember Lisa and her layout?  Little seems to be known about her but I do recall her posting pictures of her work..
