How many transformers can you wire up to one tiu?

How does this sound?  

One handle of the Z-4000 for the outer loop connected to Fixed 1....Jumper fixed 1 IN over to Var 1 in  set to fixed mode   for the intermodal yard. (var 1 out to intermodal.)

The other handle of the Z-4000 for the inner track on Fixed 2.... Jumper fixed 2 over to var 2 set to fixed for the freight yard. 

 To set the var to fixed go to.... Menu/system/ dcs set up/ select channel and then FXD...  Tiu will remember this setting.

Great! That's what I was thinking about doing  but I wanted someone with more experience and knowledge to validate my plan. I didn't know how to change the setting so thanks for the pathway.

I run a 26X46 foot layout with one TIU.  I run 4 main lines, a 23 track terminal, and 40 track roundhouse.  No more TIUs needed.   People get carried away and do not use the variable channels.  I know some clubs use the fixed only channels.

You aren't limited to a "hobby" transformer.  All you need is an isolated, pure sine wave constant voltage transformer of the correct output voltage.  Noise reduction would also be a nice feature.  A Signal MPI650-36 transformer would work; it's what I use, and it meets all the requirements.  two 18v constant voltage taps, 36 amps total available.  (More amps than you will need, but a circuit breaker makes sure you don't fry the TIU.)  Got two of them off ebay for about $100.  You just need one.

   I have 2 TIU's and numerous Z4K, ZW, KW transformers that control my entire 29'x18' Train Room.  In reality I could probably get away with one TIU, however it was easier for me to just set up a 2nd TIU and have another HHRC.  Further I am only about half way done building the Train room layouts.

Thanks for all the information. I have a friend coming over Monday who's very knowledgeable with wiring train layouts. We're going to try Gregg's suggestion first, then if I need more power we can go from there.
