Howdy all,

I recently got back into the hobby after an almost decade-long hiatus and I’ve purchased a few newer engines with Legacy. Since the CAB 2 remote seems almost impossible to get (for a decent price at least) and the CAB 3 setup is still months away - what are my options for getting my trains running now?

Just a transformer and some track? Any other suggestions? It would be nice to tap into some of the newer features.

Thanks for the help!

If they are newer Legacy they may be Bluetooth compatible. Just download the Lionel app - it's free and start running. You won't get all the features, but it should tide you over until the Base 3 becomes available.

Came to post this.  The BT app will give you extra control over conventional control with some features like changing bell or whistle/horn sounds and control of the electro-couplers.

You'll need track and power anyway, even with a Cab2 or Base 3.

Thanks everyone for the help.

The one engine does have Bluetooth (SD70Ace) - Should I get the Lionel iCab app or the Lionchief app?

You want the Lionchief app. That is the current Bluetooth enabled app.

iCab only would work with either BASE3 or a complete LCS wifi setup and CAB1L or Legacy base. iCab is TMCC/Legacy -hardware you do not have.

"NOTE: Additional hardware is required to use iCab. iCab app requirements: Lionel LCS WiFi (6-81325) to connect to your layout (up to 15 users can share a single LCS WiFi module). The iCab App works with the Lionel command base model Base-1L; a Legacy command base (v1.52 required) adds additional features. "

You are confusing the new app that is supposed to be in conjunction with the new CAB3 base when released. That is supposed to combine the Lionchief function and iCab apps together. It's not yet released.
