Hello,I just got a Lionel Cattle car&Pen,but I don't have the button to check to see if it's working properly.

Is there some way to check this pen&car with just transformer leads?

And also, how do you adjust the cattle car and pen to make sure it's vibrating the way it should?

I see a screw in front that controls how far the arm for the cattle can go,but no adjustment for the vibration.Do you just have to crank up the voltage until the cattle start moving???And if so how much voltage is recommened for this car& accessory?

I also just got a milk car that I would like to test with the shell off.Where can I hook up the transformer leads to see if the mechanism is working properly?I have never had these accessory cars before, and do not have a working RCS track or controller, and I am eager to find out if they are working or not.I have been back into trains about 10 years, and have done alot of work on Prewar and Postwar Engines, but I have never fixed a cattle car or milk car yet.Any help would be greatly appriceiated.Happy Railroading,Kenny

Hi Ken, for the cattle/corral platform hook up a variable transformer to the two power posts. it should take about 12 to 14 volts for operation. If performance is poor chances are that the adhesive washers or pads need to be replaced.

For the milk car attach a transformer to the pick up shoes on the trucks. 16 to 18 volts should provide good operation. Check the wire from the trucks to the coil, if they are original they should be replaced due to cracking.

Both of these units may require tweaking to get operating flawlessly. I am in N Columbus if you need some help.
