Gotcha...I'm trying to decide what to do w/ my OMI diesels.  It's time to go digital with them, the whole 9 yards.  I'm thinking about attempting a PS3 diesel install so I can run with my 2 rail MTH diesels, which some (the majority) are PS2 so I can't run them on DCC, only DCS.  The good thing is I can use 1 as a testbed before moving along with the other 4.

Decisions..Decisions...

As great as the DCS is, I've made the decision to pull out all PS2 modules out of my MTH diesels and replace with DCC/Sound.  It's not hard, and often quite therapeutic.  We have a lot of great choices now in O Scale for DCC/Sound.  Much more than we had even 2 years ago.   Depending on the numbers of MTH PS2 diesels you have, you might consider the converting them to DCC.  There are plenty of guys who buy the PS2 modules.

IMO, I believe the best sound decoders are

1. WOWSound (larger scale version coming out VERY soon)

2. Soundtraxx Econami decoder (ECO-400)

3. ESU Loksound L Select v4

Not even counting the smaller decoders, Tsunami, etc...

We have some killer motor/function decoders too if sound isn't a big deal...

TCS G8 (By far my favorite), but also like the Digitrax DH465, NCE408

NSPirate,

Agree with Mike.  I have been pulling PS2.0 DCS 3 volt and 5 volt boards for years.  While the optical reader is a great fix for the twin vertical drive mechanism, its not at all needed for the single larger motor drive system...and soooo many choices now as Mike stated.  I'm going with ESU ECoS and LokSound system for network tagging and train engine display on a large flatscreen.  Its real nice and new!  Yet ...everything gets supplanted some day.  If youre picking a standard now I'd go DCC since DCS is not needed.  Then again, if you need some boards, Mike and I have them! : )
