With a cup of coffee in hand, into the basement I went to run some trains this morning. I really was supposed to be gathering income tax info, but when I saw the trains the choice was easy. Obama can wait. Play trains!

So I stumbled across a Rail King Hudson I haven't run in years. There was a string of New York Central cars on the layout, so why not run the Hudson. This 30-1198-1 Hudson with PS2 fired right up and ran as good as new with a low battery. PS 2 is a blessing to my toy trains!

Well so far all is good until I play the sounds. Expecting to hear, "Now arriving from -----, Train # -----," instead I hear freight yard sounds. What the heck!&%$# That's why I put this great looking engine away! So now I am challenged with swapping the sounds to get a passenger sound file into this Hudson. I have never done this before, so Barry, I will be using your O-Gauge DCS Companion and saying a prayer to Him for guidance.

Is there a chance I can non-reversibly screw this up?

PS. Ya, I know the NYC put the Hudsons into freight service at the end of their careers. It's a horrible shame not one Hudson was saved by the New York Central's management.

First thing first.

See if MTH offers the Freight sound file for the engine on the website.

If so, download and save it.

If Not, You must use the OLD Loader program to to download and save the file from the engine.

The New Loader does not let you do this function unless that has been changed since I looked last.

The NYC Hudsons were ocasionally used on a fast freight or on Milk trains which were always pulled by passenger locomotives but were used in Passenger service until the last was retired in 1956. I agree being the Flagship of the NYC you would think they would have preserved at least one. I bought a Pennsy K-4 with Proto 2 several years ago that was equiped with Freight sounds aslo and had to download the passenger sounds also.
