Tonight I had the shell off of my MTH E8 PS1 to fix an intermittent mars light by reseating the white connector.  As I was taking her to the track to test it, I cranked up the speaker volume a bit on the base of the loco.  I enjoy that diesel roar.    This unit is the C&O PREMIER 20-2205-1.

It was running fine, cruising along at 16v, but at some point the sound stopped working.  Is there something simple I can check?  The engine and seven cars are pretty loud and I guess I didn't notice it!  I tried to ring the bell and sound the horn and got NADA... so that sort of tipped me off.

You need to consider the driver that powers the speaker. These relatively small electronic systems may not have adequate power to push more volume.  Along with the impedance (ohms) marked on the speaker there should also be a watt marking.

I did an extensive upgrade of an older Weaver set of E8. With room to the rear of the unit, I added a second speaker along with the speaker in the fuel tank.   I was concerned about the heat generated from the EOB board, Unit was hot to touch, on the side panels. I eventually went back to one speaker.
