I am looking to buy all my control equipment for my layout and all of the legacy equipment say out of Stock.
does anyone know how long it will be back ordered? should i look at other equipment but i like and want to buy several engines from Lionel. how can they sell trains with legacy controls on them and not have equipment to run them. i am confused. or is this something that will be back in stock soon.

Actually, Tim, both the Lionel Legacy and MTH DCS systems are temporarily (or not-so-temporarily, depending on how one sees it) out of stock at the present time. Both are expected to be available in the near future, but I have no firm information regarding actual dates, etc.
My advice would be to go ahead and buy the Lionel engines you want (you can always operate them conventional in the interim) and then get the Legacy system when it is available. If you're particularly anxious to get up and running with at least the major Legacy features, you can likely find--now--the Legacy CAB-1L and BASE-1L set, which, I believe, is still available. You'll then have an "extra" CAB-1L remote that you can use when you eventually get the full Legacy system.
By the way, the only stupid question generally is the one that is not asked. You can be quite sure that many others are also waiting for the latest shipment of the Legacy system to arrive.
I pre ordered a Powermaster and a 2014 Legacy 990 about 4 weeks back...just received the Powermaster yesterday and was told the 990 is about 4-5 weeks out!
The question clearly is, it's 4-5 weeks out from what starting date.
