I use lots of Christmas miniatures, easy to add and remove each year, inexpensive and plenty to choose from. All sorts and sizes of gift wrapped boxes to fill train cars, trees, figures ,100's of items, the grand kids, and visitors love them.

A few ideas for using miniature deco.  I was lucky enough to find these old santa and snowman cake decorations a few years back.  They were just the right size for light-up blow molds.  The mini nativity was a set of ornaments.  The metal tree with the lighted star behind the nativity used to have battery operated lights.  When they quit I installed a gow bulb in the center of the star.  All 3 light-ups are wired under the park scene which is just a piece of foamcore.

Remember when shopping centers and cities used to hang decorations on every lamp post and in mall parking lots?  That was a favorite memory of mine so I sought to recreate the effect.  Using dabs of hot glue, I installed snowflakes, stars, wreaths and candy canes on my Plasticville lamp posts.  The nice thing about using hot glue is it doesn't damage the plastic like adhesives can.

Don't overlook strings of mini bead garlands.  Behind the obs., you can see one of 2 small arches I made by hot gluing a string of white bead garland and a few snowflakes to a bit of steel wire.  You can see it better here:

So, just a few suggestions.
