I was just closely reviewing my L 6-82098 culvert car to go with my new Bucyrus Erie Crane Legacy and the letter 'S' is missing from one side that would show 'Bucyrus'. It's actually the side that would display in the box. Does anyone else have or know of this? The other side of the car is correct. What do you think? thanks

I'll check mine tonight. I normally do a pretty thorough look over, but there is a slim chance I could miss this if all of them are like that.
The Legacy Crane Cars (not the gantry) for I think SP are named for some guy named Bucyrus Eric on the booms. (pretty sure that is across the whole lot - joining Huck Fin, Nortern, Merrmac, etc)

On an old piece it's a "variation" (maybe valuable); on a new one it tends to be an "error", which takes all the fun out of it.
Of course, in real life, the Mexican National had a bunch of 4-8-4's, which they called a "Niagra" - they did not spell it "Niagara".
Perhaps "Bucyru" is correct - are the instructions in Spanish?
No there are no instructions, it's basically a gondola. The reverse side is spelled completely correct
Sorry for delay in response. I checked mine and it it fine on both sides. There is also a hyphen after the S.
You have what I would consider a factory error. (open to debate, depending on if a whole bunch ended up like this or just this one. "Errors vs. Variations")
I remember years ago in the Yellow hall seeing someone trying to sell a 1997 vintage NYC PA-1 that was missing the entire lightning stripe on one side. I seem to recall he had it marked as some very high markup, maybe $1k or more. (for what at the time was probably a $200-$300 engine.) I have no idea if it was ever sold or for how much if so.
