What should I look for in 2-rail track that I would know for sure that I was buying Prewar Marx track? Are there any markings or features that would distinguish it from AF or some other brand?

Marx two rail track would have 3 black ties just like the 3 rail track. The best way to tell Marx track is the ties. Lionel cleanly punched the screw holes, Marx pierced them so there are burrs on the underside.

to add to Steve's comment, Marx track is O27 profile, distinctively lower than standard O gauge height. i don't think i've ever seen Hafner or Flyer track that was anything other than standard O gauge height with much of it even banked. Lionel made very little 2-rail track. some of the others like Hoge or Unique Arts are also very distinctive and could not be confused with the light weight Marx track.
off hand, i'd say the chances of O27 style 2-rail track not being Marx is very slim.

Hi,
I did find a Marx tinplate framed set with track on eBay . The track that was with it was the low height stuff with plated silver colored ties. I will keep an eye out for the punched holes in the ties at the shows.
