G'Day All... Just picked up a little loco set from a seller in the Netherlands ... He had it listed as a Biller Bahn , now I am pretty sure its not (lol! ) but as always stand to be corrected , but its like no Biller I have ever seen?

Of course its not in my hands just yet, but hopefully winging its way from the Northern Hemisphere to me in the South.

I am of several minds with this and very comfortable with any outcome as I think it was a good price no matter what maker or era . I am leaning towards a Karl Bub set , but aspects of it also make me think one of the cheap Bing Sets ( if so its in very good nick for being from that era) .. The fixed key should make it easier to track down and I have found some Bing sets with it ... It could also be of british manufacture but that is not ringing any alarms with me .. the more I look the more I think Bing ?

Obviously for the British market with the LMS livery but as its in the Netherlands it could have come from either side of the channel ?

lms mystery combo

Regardless its very cheep 'n' cheerful and I like it

Hopefully when it arrives it will have a makers mark somewhere I cant see, but if not I welcome any suggestions from the fine folk here

It's Bing British, which was made very briefly in Britain in the early 1930s, after Bing had been forced out of business in Germany. They did them in LMS and LNER versions that I've seen, a friend recently acquired a couple of LMS coaches. If I remember right, they have a trademark that involves two letter B's, which might explain why someone may guess at them being Biller Bahn. Really genuine rarity, congratulations on finding it.

Cheers, Mark

Ahhh I love you blokes

I was aware of most of the Bing History and their involvement with Bassett-lowke initially and then going on to establish Trix but sadly my knowledge gap between the two has shone thru Most of my references I have , (and a pretty serious Solid 3 day search on the net) still did not enlighten me to the existence of Bing British ... most references simply put it as Ignaz Bing Germany , son Stephan doing deals with Bassett-Lowke-WWI-- and after, Germany til the depression and political attitude in Germany, forced the business close and sell up in 1932 with Stephan Bing staying on and developing Trix etc and being in bed with Winteringham/W.J.B-L in the UK before and after moving there  while KBN took on most of the old stock and tooling  --WWII--  interned on the Isle of Man... died 1940....

So yep absolutely fantastic to find this little gem , it sat on ebay for weeks actually and I wanted to take a punt on a really strong gut feeling ( and the fact I dont mind the "toy" appearance , 'cos well really they ARE toys lol) , but then seller relisted with a start price 30% lower and I knew I had to grab it ... put in a fair bid and it went unopposed at the starting bid ... come to papa for less than $AU100 shipped ( say US$70? of which half was shipping !)

Thank you fellows so much for sharing your knowledge
