I don't know MTH, but a friend wants to know if he can store his MTH Engines without batteries without issue.

No problem at all, it'll be fine.
You can store it without the battery just fine. It will not run without the battery at least in conventional. When I had DCS, I recall it being said here that the engine will actually run in DCS without the battery. I believe I tried it and it worked but my memory may be foggy as this was many years ago.
It runs, but there are issues. Any power glitch and it drops to conventional mode and stops as there is no watchdog at the time. Best to have a battery int them at all times.
For PS/1, it won't run without a battery, it never comes out of reset.
Replace the battery with a BCR and problems are mostly over.
