I have a Lionel model of a NYC S-1 electric locomotive. It's a great little locomotive, and I love running it, but it has one small drawback that I'd like to correct.
The problem is with the headlight. Unlike Lionel's later S-2 electrics, it uses a small GOW bulb as it's headlight source, and since I run conventional, it's pretty dim. In order to have a brighter light, I ordered a small LED from Evan Designs, and was about to install it, when I discovered that I have no idea how to access the headlight shell to replace the bulb.
The headlight is part of a small subassembly that can be removed from the main body by a couple of screws. So far, no problem. But once it's unscrewed, it's still held in place by thin handrails that bend at a 90-degree angle. And I can't figure out a way to remove it without damaging these handrails.
Has anyone else ever ever successfully replaced the headlight bulb of the S-1? If so, please tell me how you did it, because at the moment, I'm stuck.
Thanks in advance,
