I am currently running an IPad with Safari to view the OGR forum. I downloaded and installed the latest Apple operating software IOS6 and notice now on the forum I have to double click on a thread to view it. Did not have to do that before. Don't know if this is a glitch from the update but just thought I would bring it up to see if it is an issue.

I just posted a trouble ticket with Hoopla Tech Support about this. That ticket submission says:

Ever since upgrading my iPad to IOS 6, I have to click TWICE to make any Hoopla link activate. The behavior is this:

  1. A page appears containing links to various threads.
  2. Click on a link to go to a thread. The link momentarily highlights as it should, however nothing happens.
  3. Click the link again and the new page is displayed.

There is another little twist to this that may help in troubleshooting, This behavior is:

  1. A page appears containing links to various threads.
  2. Click on a link to go to a thread. The link momentarily highlights as it should, however nothing happens.
  3. Click on ANOTHER LINK on that same page and the new page appears normally with that single click.

This started immediately after the upgrade to IOS 6.

I'll keep you posted on the progress.

Here's a reply from Hoopla Tech Support:

This issue is indeed new to iOS6.  We tested in iOS5 and the links worked fine.  Thus, Apple obviously changed something in the latest OS update that has changed the way they handle these "on hover" events and links.  Chrome would have the same issue because they are wrapping the same basic browser code.

We'll need to see if this is a bug that Apple intends to fix or if they plan on keeping things this way.  If they are not fixing, then we'll need to see if there is a work-around.

There ya go.

Now we'll see how soon Apple fixes the new bugs in IOS 6. There are others...

FWIW, I just updated my iPad to IOS 6.0.1 this evening, and the OGR forum links still require a double-click.  So this is obviously not something that Apple is addressing with this first maintenance release.

I encounter the same issue with my iPhone by the way.  And I don't know which OS release it's running.  Unless it updates itself automatically, I know I've never been asked to allow the update on my phone in the way I was asked today for my iPad.

MANY other web sites have this same issue. I run into this same problem on a couple of flight planning web sites I use to research weather and file flight plans.

As Chris Bojanower has clearly explained, it has to do with links that use what is called the "mouseover" action. Not all the links here use the mouseover function. Some are straight links without any mouseover call. Those will work fine on a single click.

Web developers do NOT have to follow an operating system when designing their web sites. Web techniques are well established and universal across all operating systems. OS developers must design their OS to handle standard web technology, like the mouseover function. That function has been around for years and it worked fine in IOS 5. Apple needs to fix this in IOS 6.

This is NOT a forum software issue. It is an Apple IOS 6 issue.
