I get the UP steam updates in my email, mainly because my wife went crazy for the 4014, we even traveled to West Chicago to see it, and got some great pics and live action shots. To be honest, since the Midwest and West were not part of my world growing up, the UP was just something in magazines and books and my attention was focused on the N&W Class A's and the coal lines of the Appalachians.
I watched the Norfolk Southern wall street types, insurance companies, an unfortunate derailment, change the NS policy on steam, killing its steam program. Thankfully the Vir. Transportation Museum took up the gauntlet, but 1218 still languishes. Here is my pessimistic question...when will the powers that be and the insurance companies decide the UP steam program is done?
