one of my MTH handhelds has a smeared image on the left side where the arrow on an engine listing arrow appears and is very distracting.   Is the display an LCD or other technology, which must be replaced to make the display clear or is the display merely a clear material which could be cleaned from the inside?   Do I need to return to MTH to get the display repaired??

Thank you, Ron Stevenson

I'm 99% certain the display is a backlit LCD.  If the "smear" you see is dark in color it's likely one of two things.  Either oxidation of the the aluminum reflector on the back of the LCD.  This actually can be repaired on an LCD, but it's not for the faint of heart and not without risk of damaging it further.

The other thing that it could be is a crack in one of the layers of the LCD where the actual liquid crystal has leaked and become opaque.
