Bought a new TIU last December, Rev L, and it's worked fine up until recently.

Here is what I can describe so far that I've tried:

A simple loop of Realtrax.  Took it all apart, cleaned it up, and put it back together.

Using a Z4000 transformer.

Tried multiple MTH PS-2 engines that I've never had issues with.

Realtrax lighted lockon light comes intensifies as I apply more power.  Tried another lockon and wires.

I've always used Fixed Input 1/Fixed Output 1 since I received the TIU last December.

Fresh batteries in the handheld.

Opened up the TIU and 4 fuses appear to be fine.

Connected to Fixed Input 1 / Fixed Output 1

-Led in TIU turns on and blinks once

-watchdog signal sent to engine

-on a search for a new engine, it fails quickly with a response of 'NO ENGINE TO ADD'

-if I do a /System/TIU Setup/TIU Version, it responds Version 4.20

Connected to Fixed Input 2 / Fixed Output 2

-No led light in the TIU

-Engine turns on with sounds and smoke

-on a search for a new engine, it takes awhile with a response of 'OUT OF RF RANGE'

-If I do a /System/DCS Setup/AON it responds with 'OUT OF RF RANGE'

-If I do a /System/TIU Setup/TIU Version is responds with 'OUT OF RF RANGE'

Any help would be appreciated.  I have the DCS Companion by Barry, but I've kinda run out of ideas.

Thanks

Regarding Fixed #2, do as John suggests.

Question: are the engines all already in the remote? If so, the remote will not add them again.

If the engines are already in the remote, try just pressing ENG and using the thumbwheel to scroll to one of them to highlight it. Then, press the thumbwheel to select it. If it comes up in the LCD window, press Startup.

Sounds like the DCS output on Fixed 1 has died.

Recap:

You reset everything to defaults, then put one locomotive on the tracks and attempted to add it.  It works on Fixed #2 but not if you power the tracks with Fixed #1.  Remember, you should reset everything before trying Fixed #1 for the same test, as you have the engine already added from the Fixed #2 test.

If that's the situation, I suspect the TIU has had a failure.

Question:

When you apply power through Fixed 1 In & Out; do your PS-2 engines that are on the track stay dark and silent?

If yes, this means they are getting the watchdog signal.

If they come up in conventional, then likely the watchdog signal on Fixed 1 Out is non-functional.

You would need to send the TIU in to MTH for repairs. or if you only need one TIU channel, you can just continue operating as John suggested.

If all is well on Fixed #2 and the engines can't be found on Fixed #1, regardless of whether, when power is applied, they immediately start up in conventional or stay dark and silent, the DCS signal generator (at least) on Fixed #1 is defective.

Unfortunately, it needs to go back to MTH for repair. They'll repair Fixed #1 and most likely apply a mod to all four channels that will greatly lessen the probability of a repeat signal generator failure.
