And of course if you are into prototype you could model a string of these puppies passing through the bathroom for a laugh...

Anybody remember the great NMRA Bulletin biffy controversy? I think the late Whit Towers managed to get a structural drawing of every railroad outhouse in America into the pages.

Ah yes the Biffy debacle!

Whitt Towers was a great model railroader. I think I have quite a few of his articles saved in the catacombs...

Didn't Varney Manufacturing use his layout in Model railroad to show their new products?

My layout is in a small bedroom on the opposite end from the master bedroom. There's another bedroom the same size we use as a guest-computer room and there's a bathroom between them.

Other than my wife killing me outright, the main thing preventing me from even thinking of something like this is that the only place I'd be able to go through the bathroom to connect the rooms is that the route would take the trains through a shower stall.

well even 765 gets caught in a shower once in a while.....

Yeah, but 765 doesn't short out and have it's motor ruined from the water on the rails and condensation from passing through.

I am curious how common that is to have trains passing through a bathroom into another room for the layout to continue?

If I had a layout that did this, I'd have to make custom decals for boxcars with the RR name and in script underneath, saying something like, "The Crapper Line"

Maybe a clear Lexan tunnel through the Shower? Mine runs in the wall behind the shower but through the shower is a thought Hmmmmmmm lol

I recall seeing Varney ads online showing John Allen's G&D, so Mr. Towers was no doubt involved too.

Well here it is, the "Great Biffys of Model Railroading History" page.

While making plans for my basement loop, I considered going through the bathroom in the corner of the basement footprint (just a sink+toilet, no shower). The track would have been 60" off the floor in order to clear an upright freezer and this would have eliminated a reverse curve over the washing machine and adjacent sink. But two things stood in the way:

1: the need for an 072/081 curve would have introduced an un-workable amount of overhang directly over the toilet, and

2: the medicine cabinet is right up against the opposite/exterior wall, leaving no way to squeeze through the framing.

If  you pulled some of these stunts on the Little Woman you would be pulling your precious engine out of the toilet bowl !!  The bath room is one of the most sacred places for a woman and few would tolerate a man desecrating it with a toy train running through it especially blowin the whistle or tooting the horn. Your loss rate would be very high !!

i guess that means it's out of the question here. I'll just have to work on that beer delivery train idea...

LOL…Jim M Sr

I showed the Video to my Wife and she wanted to know if the Thread Starter was related to R.U. Gross….

Then she started mumbling something about picking the seat up……

I’ve always liked the thought of  a run thru the kitchen. You could haul Salt and Pepper, and a few Condiments.

Thank you rgross…. For posting!!!
