I hate shipping damage! It seems to me that everyone who packs and ships things should apprentice by receiving things that others have packed. That should be an eye opener.

Your next step is critical. You can either fix it, or break it trying to fix it using the wrong technique.

Either way, you still have the backup plan of sending it back.

I bought a set of wireless drawbars to attempt to tighten the distance between the engine and tender on my N&W J. simply put, it didn't work out too well. Email me a measurement of your drawbar. If I have one that is the same size, I'll be glad to send it to you. They're very simple to replace. One screw, one plug.

Gilly

You can either get a replacement part directly from MTH to replace the drawbar or my suggestion would be to try a different Service Center.  Here is a list of the National Authorized Service Centers:

Send it to these guys, they will do it right and treat you well. Plus you know who works on your train and you can call and talk to them and they will give you a straight answer.  Send it to MTH and whatever kid they've hired that week will learn on your train, and you'll never get the same person twice.  No accountability, you'll keep sending it back.  I went 8 months and several returns to MTH on one repair until I finally quit.  Get off the hamster wheel, send it to JR Junction.

Well I do see solder on the pins. I think they were soldered on the backside. The hot glue definitely not standard factory repair. It looks like to me the engine and tender were picked up together with the drawbar still attached and one or the other slipped and the tender was hanging down with the drawbar still attached, bending the socket.

My guess the damage happened after it was repaired and happened doing the repacking process, someone grabbed the hot glue gun and attempted a crude repair.
