First off I just purchase a new MTH train set 30-4220-1 with Proto-Sounds 3.0, great train set, I have 2 issues. 1st issue is when I open the box with the SD70 Ace there were items rattling inside it, come to find out they were the crew people in the cab they are loose and upside down. Can I just remove the shell off and fix this or do I have to send this back to be fixed?  2nd issue is the remote is not very responsive and most of the time I cannot shut it down with the remote. The horn button works but I have to press it about 10 times before it will work.  It is my understanding this engine will run off DCC can you tell me if this has been successful.

My son has the NS version of the set (30-4219-1).  I can't help you with the crew people issue but I can suggest that you make sure that you are pointing the remote directly at the sensor that's plugged into the power pack.  It's line of sight so if there's something in the way it won't work.   If it's not that, perhaps the remote needs new batteries?

My son's worked fine since day one.

Good luck.

I am currently pointing the remote at the sensor but it still will not response the way I think it should, I starts up good and runs good but when I hit the horn button it usually that several press to get it to blow, also when I and ready to shut it down it will not respond when I press the button, I just received it new on Friday and but new batteries in it. What I need to know is will it void my warranty if I remove the body to fix the crew people.

Are you using this in direct sunlight from a window? The IR part of sunlight can block the signal.

Otherwise you may have a bad control unit, Take it to the nearest Hobby shop and have them check it out.

Fixing the figures in the engine is minor, the instruction manual will tell you how to open the engine for replacing the light bulbs.
