An inner loop and an outer loop of track, un-connected? Cars lifted bodily off the rails for maintenance? No switches? A track gauge that wasn't quite "scale"? It must be somebody's old toy train layout.
I've never been on the renovated subway, but rode the old one a couple of times as a child and then sometime in the 70s. The famous "shoogle" was enhanced by the seat backs being attached to the walls, while the seat bottoms were attached to the floor. This gave you an extra kick in the kidneys as the cars flexed.
