IT's TEAM TRACK TUESDAY!!!  Share your railroad's team track action here!   Team tracks are a vital part of day to day real railroad operations.  Freight cars of nearly every kind can be on and off loaded on team tracks.  Team tracks are found in rural, small towns, and big city settings.  We can keep out layouts looking fresh by frequently or periodically changing scenes and scenery.  Creating various team track scenes regularly is a quick and easy way to accomplish this.

Today on the Free State Junction Railway I've gone into the archives and dug out some random  re - run team track scenes.  I've been too busy this week to create a new scene and take photos, however, the big hook will be back in action next week unloading a heavy shipment.  Stay tuned!  Click on photos at bottom of page for captions.

Feel free to post your team track photos here.   Have a fun and creative week!!B&O switch crew patiently waitsJPGIMG_0661IMG_0875IMG_0888

Good morning, Patrick. There's been no shortage of action on the Free State Junction Team Track!

Well, not only is it Team Track Tuesday, it's also International Carrot Day! We're celebrating this obscure holiday here in the Valley.

1

On a day like today, a person cannot help but get up early. Farmer Brown is no exception. After all, this is his big day. For the last several years, Brown has relentlessly petitioned the Everett trustees to bring the International Carrot Day festival (not to be confused with the Annual Carrot Festival way out west in Holtville, CA) to his hometown. Year after year, as expected, the trustees have dismissed Brown's bizarre request. So, earlier this year, Brown decided to turn his attention to the Valley Railway.

2

The Railway is always looking for ways to promote its various Team Tracks, so it jumped at the idea of hosting a Carrot Festival along the Everett Team Track access road - as long as the revelers emptied the bulkhead flat car, cleaned up after themselves and clear out before the evening local returns.

3

Today's festivities include speeches from world-renowned carroteers Peter Glazebrook, and Joe Atherton, along with carrot chopping competitions, and the crowning of Miss Carrot 2017.

4

The biggest draw is certainly Chef Brockett's tasty baked goods and Big Al's delicious carrot sausages.

6

Happy International Team Track Carrot Day!

The CEO's project is taking up all of my time lately so the Team Tracks are shut down temporarily.

The first of the new employees just arrived so as soon as they clear HR and RSJ&B mandatory safety training they will get to work .

Finally going to have people available to keep an eye on these guys. I keep finding cars moved onto other tracks and the ROW on the mainline blocked. VERY MYSTERIOUS

I've worked with that crew many times. Quite talented bunch, and very photogenic. Don't give up on those robots though. A little bit of reprograming will keep them in line!

Hey Patrick, I really like your junk yard shot.  Thomas, any chance we can see Miss Carrot?

Well, this week its all hands on deck as the REA man has been here and these time sensitive shipments have to get out. This shipment is certainly not  LCL.

SIRT,

Great track work!  Couple more questions:

What track did you use for the siding?

I don't see an uncoupling magnet.  How do you uncouple the cars, by hand?

1. Lionel SUPER O looks best for sidings.

2. Don't need un-couplers on sidings, all MTH diesels contain DCS - remote control un-coupling. Only need an un-coupler magnet on the main for the first one or two cars on the train for that siding.

3. Simulated 3rd rail using HO and bass wood for commuter & subway service.

Here we were in 1970 playing on that siding!

Always look forward to Tuesdays, Patrick.

Looks like the heavy artillery (FM) came out to move the heavy artillery!

A story about military movements....

I was train watching at the wye in Hudson Ohio and a Chevy Suburban shows up.  Out steps a guy with a badge and gun and comes over to my car.  He raises his sunglasses and I say Hi Tom.  Its the RR cop that patrols outside my office in Cleveland.  He says hi Lou, I know you're train watching but the military is turning trains here for Desert Storm.  They come equipped with a troop of MP's and I can't cover for you.  Leave and tell your friends not to train watch here.

Tom was one of the mechanical engineers that helped build the Jet/Budd car for NYC.

Amazing who you get to know from this hobby.

Well Mark, Here she is... the International Carrot Day pageant winner, Miss Carrot 2017, Bertha Girth of Jaite. Interestingly, all but one of the pageant judges is also from Jaite.

Well Thomas since you are into local history you might want to look more into the old Jaite paper mill.  One of the old timers at Terry Lumber told me that it had its own steam powered narrow gauge railroad.  Also know that Deep Lock Quarry had its own narrow gauge line that included 2'  gauge Shay locomotives.  They delivered sandstone to [your] CT&V.

Thomas - thanks for your kind words about the FSJR!

Were those carrots grown near a nuclear plant?  They are some YUGE root vegetables.   Good to know everyone in the valley will get plenty of vitamin A and have 20/20 vision.  You have a wonderful imagination!  I love your story telling!!

You keeping us in suspense with the Haney place.  Can't wait to hear who buys it and see what happens to the property!!  Great team track scene!!!  Railway Express Agency a railroad staple from the past .... Love it!!!

Lou, I was not aware the paper mill operated a narrow gauge railway, I guess it's time to start digging for info! Remnants of Deep Lock Quarry's rails can still be seen along the Metro Park trail. I don't know what good it does, but I make a point of clearing dirt and leaves from this little piece of history each fall. It's not much, but still exciting to see after so many years.

Patrick, Thanks for another great Team Track Tuesday! I'm looking forward to the 4/11 edition.

Haha, Yes. The unusually sized carrots came straight from the farm fields of Packsaddle Narrows, home of Valley Power's experimental Plasma Energy Power Plant.

ABBRAIL,

I couldn't stop laughing - and that was just looking at the pictures.  The bonus was the copy.  You are clearly a kindred spirit in the O-to-1:1 modeling world :-).

My recent order of farmer's market, dining car, and other food-related figures are in the mail and I can't wait.

Mark Diff, fantastic REA scene.

Thanks all!

Years ago at the 164th Tactical Fighter Squadron in Mansfield we had a map in base operations that had a mushroom cloud at Waverly Ohio with the note: DO NOT OVERFLY.

I noticed CSX  runs thru Waverly and ultimately makes it to your CT&V.  Are you getting carrots from down south?  Do they glow in the dark?
