Power supply: Z1000: TIU Rev L: Software V6.1 on both TIU and Remote: not WiFi enabled (handheld remote only): powered through fixed voltage in: red light flashes one time when powered on: track powered by fixed voltage out.

History:  been working fine for several years: 4 engines on layout: dumb move (when trying to tether the remote I connected the cord from the remote to the AIU port on TIU): tested a Lionel Lion chief engine for a buddy (uses 18v fixed on track) with NO DCS engines on track:

Problem: TIU address not found by remote when Read button selected. Also and not surprising no DCS Engines found.

Troubleshooting: reset both TIU and Remote: changed TIU number: deleted and re-added TIU (red light always flashed once never changed)1: jumpered Fixed Power In to Fixed Power In 2 and track to Fixed Power Out 2 no change: powered the unit with the external power connection: opened unit and checked fuses: tethered the remote the right way and have the same problem: issue not identified:

Is there anything else I can do to get this working again or am I looking at sending it to the shop or buying a replacement?

Does anyone make new TIUs these days?

Thanks,

LAD

Thanks to both of you for the replies. After the TIU failed I was afraid that putting the tether in the AIU port was a potentially fatal mistake.

I don’t have another TIU. I’m looking on-line for a replacement.

Has anyone taken over making and updating the MTH TIU, remote, and AIU? If not, is DCS at the end of its life?

Thanks,

LAD

It’s too bad that MTH is not going to include rf in the new TIU and remote. Not all of us want too keep buying newer models of iPads or iPhones over the years so we can roam around our layouts. It sounds like MTH really is in its dying stage. Very disappointed in MTH after giving us an alternative to Lionel all these years. Not much longer it seems.

I’m trying to find a rev L TIU and a replacement remote so I don’t have to abandon the hobby or buy Lionel to replace the MTH items I have.

MTH R&D keeps dropping hints that a new app-based remote is in the works. This comment was made by them just today:

And, for people that prefer the tactile nature of the DCS Remote, why not a new remote that operates on wi-fi?

The technology shift that drives this market is out of the hands of all of the major manufacturers. They don't build custom radio communication devices, they buy them from vendors. When the demand for RF chips and the frequency spectrum that was used in the DCS remote & tiu dried up, so did the production from the vendors.
