Michael:
I've had that same thing occur on my Buco brass 3 rail tracks, and found it was one of the Kadee metal couplers I had installed, in leu of the usual "drop-link" couplers.
The "uncoupling bar" was touching the center rail coming out of a O 31 curve onto the straight, as the Kadee coupler was being pulled across the middle rail by the car in front of it.
Bottom line......check the uncoupling mechanism on your couplers for the correct center rail height clearance.
