It's the most wonderful time of the year, or is it just me.  Ever since childhood the fall season always meant the trains will soon be out of the attic, up and running.  I still have those same feelings even though I have a layout all year long. Anyone else feel this way?

I too really love this time of year.  The weather gets cooler, which makes my job of firing steam locomotives so much more enjoyable than when its 100 degrees in July.  The leaves start changing colors too and the real locomotives will soon be put in the shop for winter maintenance in early November.

My Christmas Layout at a local Movie theater will soon begin construction as well towards the end of October.

The fall is by far my favorite time of year, especially because of the colors.  I also like the smell of the leaves after they fall and begin to decay.  Don't forget the smell of burning leaves either.  All these remind me of the days ahead when the annual Christmas layout gets unpacked and set up under the tree.

It's funny how your perspective changes as you get older.   Growing up, I always loved summer best, for obvious reasons.  Playing baseball all day, going to the beach, no responsibilities.  Fall, at least the onset of Fall, was the most depressing time because it meant back to rules and regulations and constraints on your free time.

Now, fast forward about 45  years or so, and I kind of dislike summer...too much heat and humidity, and no train shows!  As  an adult I find the Fall weather  more comfortable, there's a greater appreciation for the brilliant scenery and the changing of seasons.  Throw in York and Allentown, and the occasional  Greenberg show, it's like the Man said...a wonderful time of year.

Yep it's officially Fall and I suppose that somewhat legitimizes all the work I've been doing these past two months on this years Christmas display. The Autumn Equinox coincides with Ma's Birthday and I just spent the last two days building a Manger for her Willow Tree Nativity figures. The Nativity is now too big to be incorporated into the train display and will have to set up on the coffee table. Oh well, guess I'll have to figure out how to fill in the space on the train display it would normally take up.
