Hi everyone, Before I put this in the for sale Forum, I need to get some advice from all of you. I have an Atlas Roundhouse and Turntable for sale. Both came in pretty big boxes when I got them brand new but the roundhouse has been assembled which makes it even bigger. It is approx. 40" by 40" by 12". Now if I were to sell this assembled, I think it would be cost prohibited for shipping. My other choice is to try to disassemble it without breaking anything. Has anyone out there in Forumland run into this problem and if so, how did you remedy the situation?

You can disassemble the round house if you built it with plastic cement with carefully apply nail polish remover. Just disassemble the large pieces so they can be packed.
The turntable I would ship UPS in a large box.
Offer to deliver it locally, say with in 50 miles. I would think there are enough RR guys in your neck of the woods. Or buy a table at a train show and try to sell it there. Post it anyway and if the buyer is willing to pay shipping you are ahead of the game. Try Craig's list too.
Paul,
The value of the roundhouse being built up should overcome the cost of shipment. We have shipped built up 3 stall roundhouses via the US post Office with good results.
I shipped a built Korber Roundhouse to Trevise 7-8 years ago. I built a packing case for it, used basic foam pieces and filled in with bags filled with Goodstuff expanding foam. It was not cheap but Trevise appreciated it. I think I still have pics somewhere of the process. I agree with Rich, Ship it as is without trying to Disassemble it.
Yes, ship it assembled. what you will pay for the oversize package will not be cost prohibitive. Foam peanuts will most likely protect it best for impact or weight. They give. just charge for the extra time and material. It will still be fair.
Assembled classifies as "value added" in my book. I would offer it assembled with a variety of options; one of which could be disassembled. But let the buyer make that call.
Just my unqualified $0.02 on this subject!
