JAD Daniels Trains Standard Gauge Heavyweights

Pictures please?

I have seen several sets in person and all had 3 cars. I think it is a John Daniels GG1 not  JAD.

Here is a video Dave Clark Lumber posted a while ago. Video is titled John Daniels and yet train is referred as JAD Lines in narrative.

JAD Lines is from 3 guys not John Daniels initials although he may be the J or D. 

Is this the right set?

JAD stands for the first name initials of John Daniels, Art Varney, and Dick Bataglia.  Jerry Brown was also involved, so maybe it should have been JJAD!

There is often confusion around this, partly because John A. Daniels' initials are JAD, but not the same JAD; credit where credit is due.

John Daniels made these "heavyweight"  passenger sets on his own, as "Daniels Railway", not with JAD.  This was around 1981 or so.

I have his 5-car Black Diamond set, #1785-6-7-8-9; combination car, 2 pullmans, diner, and observation.  Beautiful set, loads of incredible detail.

Seafoid, your photo came through great.  They are beautiful cars.

If the numbering for the Pennsylvania cars followed the same pattern as my Black Diamond cars, then #1780 would have been for the combination; 1781 and 1782 are your two different coaches; #1783 would be the diner; and 1784 is your observation.  Whether or not the other cars were actually made in the Penn set I do not know.  In any case, your three make a great set that is plenty to haul around a standard gauge layout!

Daniels made a matching Pennsylvania standard gauge GG-1 to pull these with. Like the cars, there were not many made, but they do come up for sale now and then.

Nice coaches--I like them in Brunswick Green; never seen that before.  I have 4 of them in Tuscan, including the 1780 combine or "Club Car" as it's lettered. Still in the hunt for the diner.  They look real good behind a 392E.

The coaches in the video above are actually the heavyweights that Lionel made a few years ago to go with their SG Commodore Vanderbilt--another item on the "want" list!!

These cars were made by the John Daniel's Railway Lines starting around 1981 (please, not JAD). They came in 4 different color combinations: Tuscan Red, Brunswick Green, Black Diamond and Blue Comet. The Tuscan variation was the most produced, the Blue Comet the least. They were originally sold as a 3-car set with the Club car and Diner as add-on cars later. They show up from time to time at York or at auction. Persistence is key when looking for one of these sets. Buy them as a set with as many cars as you want, the odds of finding separate cars after the fact is hard. But, if a seller on ebay splits up the set, then you have a chance.

That is because they are the same cars from that set. The locomotive has also been re-motored so it is not a fair example of the John Daniel's Railway Lines GG-1 running... they never ran that good!

About when were these made? Were there other cars? Judging by the numbering I have to assume there was a 1783 coach to fill the numerical gap between the other coaches and the observation car. How rare or common are these, and are there any known quirks with them, or variations. 

I have to assume Arno and some of the others here will be able to fill in the gaps. Thanks in advance.
