engine works great now and the smoke unit works great. it was defective from the factory and smoked so much that it was out of fluid once around the layout (40} ft. and room was full of smoke. it didnt last long and quit smoking. it took 2 full months to get it back. i think they sent me a new one, hears why i think this. i got a early one as the two pipes on the grey firebox on the firemans side, which is wrong for the rebuilt 4014 . it now has only one and and is correct. the gloss black is perfect and the 1st one had smears on it embeded in the paint. also some more piping up by the smoke stack. looks great. beautiful engine.

Too bad this happened in the first place but kudos to Lionel for stepping up and good for you for getting some results.
Happy railroading.
Check the work order enclosed with the engine they usually state the repairs made and if they replaced it with a new engine. I have had two returned with new engines due to repair parts being unavailable.

So it took two months just to send out a replacement?

I’m sure between the back log, Covid, an attempt to possibly repair it and then returning a new engine. 2 mos. could be pretty close timeline. Bottom line he got satisfaction.
I think Marty is right. Out of the 8 weeks you are looking at possible 2 weeks-even more just in the round trip shipping. Enjoy that Locomotive and forget about it! Nick
Steam punk, I got the excursion version of the legacy big boy. It is a beautifull model. Glad my engine had no issues out of the box. Enjoy your bigboy they are realy nice.
