My B&A 4-6-4t with cruise has the ability to change both chuffs and speed steps via the Cab-1 handheld. It also had an unusual way to set stall speed when not in Cruise mode.
The cruise used to be a little jerky when new but since has settled down so that it is one of my favorite slow runners. Did the recommended smoke mods also.

I know that this was one of the later or maybe last locomotives that K-line produced.
I was lucky to get a very detail manual which was also unusual for K-line.

I was wondering if K-line put these options in other locomotives.
I have quite a few and rarely do they come with manuals and when they do, they are generic TMCC instructions.

I'm not sure who was being asked but here are the directions for setting the speed steps on K-Line cruise.

The number of speed steps can be adjusted by pressing the following sequence on the CAB-1:  DIR, BELL, AUX1, then either 1, 2, or 3.  Each button should be held for one full second.  This sets the number of steps between stopped and full speed.  Press the Bell button again to turn off the bell.

 

32 STEPS:  DIR, BELL, AUX1, 1  (factory setting)

128 STEPS:  DIR, BELL, AUX1, 2

The tank engine was the only one with selectable chuff. Both of my Berkshires and my Pacific were converted to selectable chuff. These engines had this capability but came with     a cherry switch to control the chuff. 2 chuffs per rev. .   It involves removing the switch and a little re wiring. Some programming of the board is required as well. Sort of like setting up an EOB. If interested I have the instructions. Hit my email and I can send them out.

 

I believe that it applies to at least most K-Line cruise versions.  Jon Z. from Lionel pointed out that K-Line doesn't use the PWM outputs from the R2LC to sense direction.  That being the case, it doesn't know if it's coming or going.   Running alone is no problem, but in an MU it can get confused.  Since it doesn't have any direction information from the R2LC, it would always start in forward, hence the warning about the MU in reverse as the end unit.
