I managed to pickup a k-line 952 controller from Nicholas Smith Trains the other day. I was to throw this on my recently completed layout so the young kids in my family can have a button, away from the transformers, to push for the whistle.

I've got this working just fine conntected to the transformer's common post (U ... its a lionel TW tranformer) and the outer rail.

However, my question is: Would it be better to connect it to the hot center rail? And if so what post of the transformer would you recommend?

Notice in the picture, this controller has the benefit of having a wall wart for extra power it seems, instead of relying on the transformer. Also the left post says " To transformer" the right post says " to track". And what spawned this question is on the base it warns

"If whistle is activated while track power is off, the track will receive DC voltage and the engine may move"....which only seems to happen if attached to hot center rail....

Let me know your thoughts, or if you have a manual for the k-952 , that would be great too . Thanks for reading.

@ADCX ROB, thanks for the reply. Yes you are correct, I mis-typed in my original post. I do have "A" as common to the outside and U to the center.  I also have the whistle controller connected to the track clip on to the center rail.

If you wouldn't mind confirming that connecting the whistle controller back to the transformer via to the "U" post is correct? Or would should I use another post? The reason for my uncertainty is because hook up this way, it will trigger the whistle when pushed, but has no effect when the track power is off (contrary to what the warning on the controller states).

Thanks
