I wasn't overcome by smoke. I was at a hospital where my wife was being operating on and I was summoned by of those devices like they use in some restaurants..
I was about to say the locomotive smokes like it is a real Allegheny. I think something
--maybe a smoke triac-- has shorted and the resistor in the smoke unti is getting too hot.
That's my guess until I get the locomotive open.

Prayers are with your wife Al. I love my old K-line steamers, some do have there ways! Good luck with it.

The wife is doing fine. The leg was operated on. But now she has a severe case of
"black ear". The more severe the case of black ear, the better the leg is doing.
Wish my Allegheny were doing as well.
My Allegheny must be the only one with problems. Nobody has chimed in with
'I had such and such a problem witth my Allegheny". Curious, before the problem was no smoke now I got too much.

Has anybody ha problem with the K-Line Allegheny? If so, what was the problem?
And the solution if there was one?

If it's the triac, it's possible to replace those. If the triac is shorted, you would get excessive smoke, that's the same as holding the boost all the time on the remote.
You can test the triac with an ohmmeter if you have one. Here's a thread on the issue.
