Picked up a K-Line Dreyfus Hudson 5449 a year and a half ago and want it to sound better and smoke better. Here is a photo of what I have. One board says RS 3.0 ver C, the other has a big K on it "one with copper coil". Both plug into a board in the center. I am totally new to TMCC. Just bought a Cab-1L two weeks ago.  Love it with matching MTH cars!!! On my Christmas layout.  Can someone help me here? Thanks, Steve

The exact model would be useful.  If you want it to sound better, is it the speaker quality or you just don't like the sound set?  As far as smoke, I suspect that has the mechanical smoke unit, you can change it to a fan driven smoke unit, but to get it chuffing smoke properly takes a bit more equipment.  I created the Super-Chuffer and the Chuff-Generator for these kinds of upgrades.

Gunrunner, your boards work with mechanical smoker? That would be cool. Do your two boards fit in the engine or tender? I'll try to find a model number, bought it without a box. The speaker is real static-ey,even low volume. I just baffled the speaker and no real improvement. Marty, so what is the center board, the power board? Can I just unplug the audio board an plug on a new one? Probably not that simple. Thanks all. More pics coming. Steve

Nope, my boards don't work with the mechanical smoke unit, that's why I put in the fan driven smoke unit.  I guess I didn't write it clear enough.

As for the boards, the motherboard is just interconnections, no active components on the motherboard.  You could plug in a new audio board, but without hearing what you have, I don't know that it would be an improvement.

Before ordering the Dreyfuss audio board consider the Lionel engine is cab number 5452, not 5449. The tower com will be the only thing that differentiates this board from a generic steam board which make no reference to road name and cab number.

Before springing for a new board you might want to try a different speaker.
