Can anyone provide the nexus between K-line and Atlas. Some of the car bodies and artwork seem to be remarkably similar. Did Atlas take over K-line's tooling? Does anyone know the story?

For what it's worth, I have an Atlas Steam Era Classics reefer next to a K-Line reefer (different paint schemes) and the appear almost identical in detail and application thereof. I have heard Atlas did purchase some K-Line tooling but I can't confirm that.
Some of K-Line's reefers (if not all of the scale-sized ones) were from Intermountain.
K-Line used their usual die-cast friction-bearing trucks on them, which made the ride height a tad on the high side

I think the K-line reefers were a very close match with Atlas. I have a lot of both. When K-line went out of business some of the retailers were selling the cars for as little as $15. I bought a ton of them and wished I bought more. As to who made the best of the two? Atlas was just a tad better but from a few feet away, you couldn't tell. I mix them up in the same train and nothing stands out. I also run some older Intermountain. They are nice cars also and it doesn't bother me that the doors don't open. Don
